Questions You Should Ask About Shingles Disease

August 10th, 2009

There are about a million people in America that suffer from shingles disease every year. If you don’t know what shingles is, then it’s time to get informed. You or a loved one could be at risk of suffering from shingles disease.

What causes shingles?

Shingles disease is often said to be a sister disease of chicken pox. This is because the virus varicella zoster which causes chicken pox is also the cause of shingles disease. In addition, a person can only suffer from shingles if he has had chicken pox in the past. This is because the chicken pox virus lies dormant after patient recuperation and can recur at some point in the person’s life as shingles.

Is it the same as herpes?

Shingles disease is also known as herpes zoster. Some other skin diseases may also carry the name herpes. Shingles disease however and some other skin diseases carrying the name herpes is not the same as genital herpes which is a sexually transmitted disease.

Who is at risk of having shingles?

Those who have experienced chicken pox have higher chances of getting shingles. Most of the time though children and young adults who still have strong immune systems may still be able to avoid the illness. Those who are at high risk of developing shingles disease are those with weakened immune systems. These include the elderly and those who are extremely stressed out or fatigued. Of course, people who are severely sick with cancer, AIDS, leukemia and other illnesses also have a higher risk of developing shingles disease.

What are the symptoms of shingles?

The disease is also often called St. Anthony’s Fire because of the seemingly fiery pain the comes from the nerves and runs through the muscles and tissues. Aside from the pain, one will also develop reddish blisters. Fever, chills, fatigue, headache and stomach pains also accompany shingles. Of course, the rashes or blisters may also feel a little itchy.

Are there any complications that follow shingles?

There are also instances wherein people who have experienced shingles get it again for the second time. In some cases, even if shingles does not recur, an individual may experience post herpetic neuralgia. This is an enduring and chronic pain usually among the elderly that may go on long after the shingles disease has been treated. In rare instances, shingles can cause some paralysis, encephalitis, pneumonia, blindness, ear problems and even death.

Can shingles spread?

A fresh active blister can spread the virus to people who have not had chicken pox or have not been vaccinated for it. It cannot however, be transmitted through casual, indirect contact. Once the blisters develop a crust, the virus can no longer be spread.

How do you avoid shingles?

Have yourself vaccinated against chicken pox. If you’ve already had chicken pox before, then you can delay the incidence of shingles disease by keeping your immune system strong and healthy. People with shingles should keep blisters covered to avoid transmitting the virus to others.

Understanding The Workings Of Foreclosures In California

August 2nd, 2009

If you live in California, you may be worried about your home - or you may be interested in homes about to become available. Foreclosures in California are taking place more and more often, and some people benefit from them, while others are badly hurt. Whatever position you’re in, it’s good to prepare yourself.

A home will first become at risk of foreclosure when it goes into default. This means that they’ve missed a payment on their mortgage. Obviously, almost nobody’s going to leap on them right away, but it does mean financial institutions will start to keep a close eye on their future habits.

If you then miss three or four payments, things will start to be put in action. You’ll receive something called a record of notice of default within ten days from when this document is first written. When you get it, you’ll know you have to take immediate action in order to save your home.

You will still be able to intervene, though. In fact, you’ll probably be given several months in which to pay back what you owe. In special circumstances, you might well even be allowed to work out a loan in addition to the back payments. You’ll often find a way out of the situation.

Sometimes, though, no solution can be found, and in that case things will start moving directly towards foreclosure. A notice is sent, and during a period on hold, the IRS is typically notified as well. From there, there are twenty five days before the house goes on sale - for twenty of those the owner will be able to make a last bid.

Once time runs out, though, the home will be made available in places like public auctions. Those who are interested in buying these homes will come here to go after them. In this one person’s loss is another’s gain - but everyone is going to try their hardest to save the place where they live.
